One of the Last Republicans to Vote Against Trump Steps Down

Rep. Dan Newhouse (R-WA), one of two House Republicans still in office who voted in 2021 to impeach Trump, said he will retire. Newhouse beat Trump-backed opponents in 2022 and 2024 in his heavily Republican district. Eleven candidates now seek the open seat before the August 4, 2026 primary, where the top two vote-getters advance to the final election regardless of party.
