Fire on Indonesia Ferry Leaves Five Dead and 41 Missing

Five people died and 41 are missing after a fire broke out on 2 August 2026 on a ferry carrying 271 people near Madura island, Indonesia. The boat was traveling from Surabaya to Makassar. Indonesia's search and rescue team, Basarnas, is looking for survivors. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
