Five Dead, 41 Missing After Ferry Fire Off Indonesia's Madura Island

Five people are dead and 41 missing after the ferry KM Mutiara Sentosa 2 caught fire on 2 August 2026 in waters north of Sumenep, off Madura island. The vessel was carrying 271 people on the Surabaya–Makassar route. Basarnas, Indonesia's search and rescue agency, is leading the ongoing operation. The cause of the fire is not yet known.
