UK petrol averaged 160p per litre on 31 July 2026 — the highest since November 2022 — after the US struck Iran, pushing oil above $90 a barrel. Filling a family car now costs £88. Prices had briefly fallen to 151p after a July ceasefire (a halt in fighting) before renewed military action reversed the drop.
