More New Zealanders now trust Labour than National on the economy

Labour has overtaken National as the party New Zealanders trust most to handle the economy, a July 2026 Ipsos poll shows — a first in recent history. Labour rose from 28% to 34% since May, while National dropped from 33% to 30%. Ipsos surveyed 1,002 people from 8 to 14 July. The margin of error is about 3.5 points.
