Judge gives short sentence for Brooklyn synagogue car crash

Dan Sohail drove his car into a Brooklyn synagogue on January 28, 2026. On July 29, Judge Eric Vitaliano sentenced him to time served plus seven days. Prosecutors wanted 14 months. The judge called it "a property crime," not a hate crime. State hate-crime charges had been dropped. Sohail must pay $19,000 and get mental health treatment.
