Government confirms £8.4 billion for new nuclear submarines

The government confirmed £8.4 billion for the next stage of the Dreadnought submarine programme, the BBC reported. The money was already set aside within a wider £63.6 billion defence budget over four years. The new submarines will replace the ageing Vanguard fleet, which has carried Britain's nuclear deterrent since 1992, in the 2030s.
