UK confirms £8.4 billion for next phase of Dreadnought submarine programme

The government confirmed £8.4 billion for the fourth phase of the Dreadnought-class nuclear submarine programme, the BBC reported. The funding was already committed within the Defence Investment Plan's £63.6 billion over four years for the Defence Nuclear Enterprise. Dreadnought boats will replace the Vanguard-class submarines, which have carried Trident since 1992, with both fleets transitioning in the 2030s.
