Government green-lights smaller Scott Base upgrade

Cabinet has approved a smaller upgrade of Scott Base, New Zealand's Antarctic research station, after the original $306 million plan proved too expensive. Instead of replacing the Hillary Field Centre, it will be fixed up. A new building will go up and old water and power systems replaced. Work begins in October, board chair Leon Grice said.
