Cabinet signs off scaled-back Scott Base redevelopment,Hillary Field Centre to be refurbished not replaced

Cabinet has approved scaled-back plans to redevelop Scott Base after Antarctica New Zealand's board said the original $306 million project could not be delivered within budget. The revised plan refurbishes the existing Hillary Field Centre rather than replacing it, adds a new Base Services Building, and replaces ageing water and power infrastructure. Construction is set to begin in October, board chair Leon Grice said.
