Iran Wants Full Control of Key Oil Shipping Route

Iran rejected Oman's plan to jointly oversee the Strait of Hormuz — a narrow waterway carrying about one-fifth of the world's oil and gas. Oman, backed by Gulf neighbors, had proposed splitting oversight 50-50 and charging voluntary shipping fees. Iran instead wants the main shipping lane placed fully in its own waters, giving it sole authority over the route.
