Iran Rejects Oman's Joint Oversight Plan for Strait of Hormuz, Seeks Unilateral Control of Main Shipping Lane

Iran rejected Oman's 50-50 joint oversight proposal for the Strait of Hormuz and counterproposed placing the primary shipping lane entirely within Iranian territorial waters. Oman's plan, backed by Gulf states, drew on the Strait of Malacca model with voluntary shipping fees. Iran's counterproposal would give Tehran unilateral authority over the main transit route through which one-fifth of global oil and LNG supplies once flowed.
