2,700 young people with health conditions could lose benefit payments

Social Development Minister Louise Upston says about 2,700 18- and 19-year-olds with health conditions, injuries or disabilities could lose their government benefit. From November 2026, payments stop for those whose parents earn over $65,000. Upston told Parliament families should provide support instead. The Green Party wants these young people kept on the benefit.
