Upston confirms 2,700 young people with health conditions at risk of losing Jobseeker benefit

Social Development Minister Louise Upston has confirmed around 2,700 18 and 19-year-olds with a health condition, injury or disability face losing their Jobseeker benefit under the government's parental income test. From November 2026, payments end for those whose parents earn over $65,000. Upston told Parliament support "should come from their families." The Green Party is calling for an exclusion.
