New U.S. tariffs would tax Canadian goods that were previously protected

Trump's August 19 tariffs — 50 per cent on many Canadian goods — for the first time offer no exemption for products covered by the North American trade agreement, protection that sheltered cross-border supply chains. Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc and chief negotiator Janice Charette head to Washington this week to seek changes before the measures take effect.
