
U.S. tariff package would strip CUSMA exemption for first time, hitting all compliant trade
President Trump's announced August 19 tariffs — 50 per cent on a wide range of Canadian goods — include no exemption for CUSMA-compliant products, unlike every previous round this cycle. That removes the carve-out that sheltered trilateral supply chains. Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc and chief negotiator Janice Charette travel to Washington this week to press for changes before the measures take effect.
