Carney sets Aug. 31 by-elections that could cost Liberals their majority

Prime Minister Mark Carney called three by-elections Aug. 31 — votes to fill empty House of Commons seats in North Vancouver—Capilano, Beaches—East York, and Chicoutimi—Le Fjord. Two Liberals and one Conservative left, and Richard Martel joined the Senate. The Liberals need to win at least one seat to keep their majority — control of more than half the House.
