Carney calls three federal by-elections for Aug. 31 as Liberal majority hangs in the balance

Prime Minister Mark Carney issued writs July 26 for by-elections on Aug. 31 in North Vancouver—Capilano, Beaches—East York, and Chicoutimi—Le Fjord. The seats were vacated by Liberal MPs Jonathan Wilkinson and Nathaniel Erskine-Smith, and Conservative MP Richard Martel, now appointed to the Senate. The Liberals need to win at least one to keep their House of Commons majority.
