
Economy Looks Okay Now, but Warning Signs Are Flashing
On July 20, the Conference Board slightly raised its 2026 US growth forecast, from 1.8% to 1.9%. But its leading index — an early-warning tool that tries to predict where the economy is headed — fell again in June, its twelfth monthly drop in a row. The economy is fine today. The gauge says trouble may be coming, though it's been wrong before.
