LAPD Cuts Ties With Surveillance Company Flock Safety Over Privacy Worries

The LAPD ended its contract with Flock Safety in July 2026, citing privacy concerns. Flock, a $7.5 billion Atlanta startup, makes cameras that read license plates for police agencies, including ICE. Amazon's Ring also dropped its Flock partnership in February 2026. CEO Garrett Langley plans to discuss the tradeoffs at TechCrunch Disrupt in October.
