LAPD Drops Flock Safety Contract Over Civil Liberties Concerns

The LAPD let its contract with Flock Safety expire in July 2026, citing "serious concerns over civil liberties and privacy." The $7.5 billion Atlanta startup, which sells license plate recognition and surveillance tech to law enforcement including ICE, also lost Amazon's Ring partnership in February 2026. CEO Garrett Langley is scheduled to address the tradeoffs at TechCrunch Disrupt in October.
