New Zealand and Switzerland plan trade talks starting September

Trade Minister Todd McClay and Swiss official Helene Budliger Artieda met in Auckland on 16 July 2026 and agreed to start talking about a trade deal. Government staff will hold the first meeting in September. Trade between the two countries was worth $1.88 billion in 2025. Switzerland is not in the EU, so this is separate from New Zealand's 2023 EU trade agreement.
