A Chinese Air Conditioner Company Says Its Product Has "German Engineering" and "Italian Design"

Midea, a Chinese company, advertises its PortaSplit air conditioner as having "German engineering" from its Stuttgart research center and "Italian design." The unit needs no installation and sold out across Europe after a May 2026 heatwave. Midea's Europe chief Ralph Kobsik told the BBC the company expects strong long-term growth there.
