Investigators: Tesla Driver Turned Off Self-Driving Before Fatal Crash
NTSB's preliminary report confirms a Tesla Model 3 driver pressed the gas pedal all the way down, which turned off the car's self-driving feature before it hit a Katy, Texas home at over 70 mph in a 30 mph zone, killing 76-year-old Martha Avila. Driver Michael Butler, 44, faces manslaughter charges. NHTSA is also investigating. Butler told hospital staff he switched on self-driving then passed out.
