EU Tells Google to Let Rival AI Helpers Compete on Android Phones

The EU ruled July 16 that Google must let competing AI assistants on Android phones have the same access as Google's own assistant, Gemini — including voice activation, device hardware, and app control. Unlike a fine, Google must change how it operates. Google can still vet rivals for safety. Final rules are due by July 27.
