New York Law Bars Chatbots From Pretending to Be Human
Governor Kathy Hochul has signed a New York law stopping AI chatbots (programs you chat with online) from pretending to be real people, claiming to be alive, or claiming human feelings. It covers users under 18 or not confirmed as adults. Companies face fines of up to $25,000 per violation. The law takes effect in six months.
