New York Bars Chatbots From Human Impersonation for Minors and Unverified Users
Governor Kathy Hochul has signed a New York law prohibiting AI chatbots from posing as real people, claiming to be alive, or asserting human emotions when a user is under 18 or not verified as an adult. Companies face civil penalties of up to $25,000 per violation. The law takes effect in six months.
