New home loans to drop 5% in 2027 as rates stay above 7%
$2.101 trillion in new U.S. home loans in 2027, down 5%, the Mortgage Bankers Association forecast Oct. 11, 2026. With rates stuck above 7%, like a too-high price tag that won't drop, most people can't refinance and buyers are stretched thin. I see no pickup in home sales until loan rates fall and stay down.
