Ottawa warns Stelco owner over 500 planned layoffs

Industry Minister Mélanie Joly says U.S. steelmaker Cleveland-Cliffs could face fines or be forced to sell Stelco if it lays off up to 500 workers in Hamilton and Nanticoke, Ont. She says the cuts would break job promises made when Ottawa approved the $3.4-billion purchase in 2024.
