ACT policy aims to help abuse victims who stay to protect pets

ACT announced a family violence policy on 5 July that treats harming pets as a serious crime with up to seven years in prison. Research shows more than half of domestic violence victims delay leaving because they fear for their animals' safety. The policy lets police take pets to safety when a court orders protection for someone being abused.
