Eight Suicide Attempts on Long Navy Mission, Navy Says

The Navy said eight sailors tried to take their own lives aboard the warship USS Abraham Lincoln and its support ships since leaving in November.

The announcement came as the ship returned to San Diego on Oct. 8, 2026, after a detour to the Middle East. Questions about caring for sailors' mental health on long work trips will likely grow.
