Labour promises to bring back apprentice payment scheme

Labour will restore a payment scheme for apprentices from 2028 if re-elected, leader Chris Hipkins said on 28 June. The scheme gives employers $500 a month per trainee. Labour started it in 2020 during the pandemic to support trades training. The party hasn't yet said which trades and employers would qualify under the expanded rules.
