Bones of a King From 1,000 Years Ago Arrive in Sofia

Bones identified as King Samuel arrived in Sofia on Oct. 3, 2026, on a military plane guarded by fighter jets. Samuel was a warrior king who died in 1014 fighting Byzantium, a rival empire at the time. Thousands gathered in a public square, then the coffin was paraded to the Church of Saint Sofia.
