Top Judges Tell Balad Leader to Quit Parliament Race

Sami Abu Shehadeh, head of Balad party, was told Oct. 1 by Israel's top court to quit the race for parliament (the Knesset) for the Oct. 27 vote by Friday morning or judges will block him. Chief Judge Yitzhak Amit said most judges agree. The court is weighing challenges to Central Elections Committee's bans on Arab candidates and lists.
