Tennessee Unable to Carry Out Death Sentence for Christa Pike
Tennessee failed to execute Christa Gail Pike, 50, on September 30, 2026. Two doses of pentobarbital, a drug meant to stop the heart, left her alive at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution. Officials found her heart still beating after the procedure and took her to a hospital outside the prison for treatment.
