13 Jailed After 31 Die in Unsafe Channel Boat Crossing

A Paris court on Sept. 30, 2026, sentenced 13 men to up to 10 years in prison over a November 2021 Channel boat crossing that killed 31 migrants, mostly Iraqi Kurds. Six were found guilty of causing deaths by carelessness, seven of smaller crimes. Prosecutors said the overcrowded boat was unsafe for open sea. One man was cleared.
