Parliament to close down on 1 October before election

The 54th Parliament will close down at 11am on Thursday, 1 October 2026, Parliament has confirmed. Closing down, known as dissolution, formally ends its term and starts the countdown to voting. The general election will be held on Saturday, 7 November 2026, according to elections.nz.
