Parliament to be dissolved on 1 October ahead of election

The 54th Parliament will be dissolved at 11am on Thursday, 1 October 2026, Parliament has confirmed. Dissolution formally ends this term and starts the election sequence, Parliament says. The general election will be held on Saturday, 7 November 2026, according to elections.nz.
