Burnham to announce new public company for power cables

Andy Burnham is expected to announce Great British Grid in his first speech as Labour leader on Tuesday afternoon in Liverpool. Labour said the publicly owned company would compete to build cables carrying electricity, to speed up connections. Labour said funding would come from GB Energy's existing budget. He is expected to say it will work with private firms.
