Pope Talks With Seven People Hurt by Priests as Children

Pope Leo XIV met privately for two hours with seven adults abused as children by priests and church staff in Lourdes on September 27. The Vatican, the Church’s headquarters, said he thanked them for painful stories and promised to end abuse by priests. A 2021 French inquiry found 330,000 French children abused by priests and church helpers over 70 years.
