Four African Leaders Want a Permanent Say in How the U.N. Keeps Peace

Presidents of Ghana, Liberia, Kenya and Namibia demanded permanent African seats with veto power, or the right to block decisions, on the U.N. Security Council, the group that handles war and peace, at the 81st General Assembly, the U.N.'s meeting, in September 2026. They criticized Africa's lack of permanent representation. Secretary-General António Guterres has called that absence 'indefensible.'
