Germany Lays Out Plan to Quit Oil, Gas and Coal

Germany on September 23, 2026, published its first plan to move away from fossil fuels — oil, gas and coal that warm the planet — by 2045, going beyond just aiming for no net pollution. Berlin says it supports that 2045 goal. Germany is the third big economy with such a plan, after France and the Netherlands.
