Local leaders in England to keep more tax money for building

England's regional mayors will keep taxes paid by local shops and firms from 2027, and part of local workers' income tax from 2028, like keeping more pocket money to borrow and build roads and bridges. They can also add a small hotel fee for visitors. Ministers will explain the timetable in a policy paper with the 28 October autumn budget.
