Yemen Fighters Seize Key Path for Ships

By 22 September 2026, Houthi fighters controlled the Bab al-Mandab strait, a narrow doorway for ships, after a three-week attack taking Mocha and important Red Sea islands. The doorway carries 10% of world shipping. It is the biggest gain in Yemen's four-year civil war, while Iran has shut the Strait of Hormuz.
