Many young veterans carry chemicals needing health checks

58% of U.S. veterans ages 20-39 carry PFAS — chemicals that linger like stains — in blood above 20 nanograms per milliliter, where U.S. National Academies experts advise health checks, a Brown University-led study found. About 36% of non-veterans that age were also above it, using CDC health data from 2003-2018.
