Beekeepers ask Ottawa for winter help after U.S. honey tax

The Canadian Beekeepers Federation wants Ottawa to pay farms for each hive of bees to help them get through winter. It says American buyers, who buy about 60 per cent of Canadian honey, will stop buying after the U.S. added a 50-per-cent tax at the border, like a toll, in August. Most honey is made in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
