Beekeepers ask Ottawa for emergency per-colony payment after U.S. tariff

The Canadian Beekeepers Federation has asked Ottawa for interim payments for each bee colony to keep operations viable through winter. It says sales to the United States, which take about 60 per cent of Canadian honey, will fall to zero after Washington imposed a 50-per-cent tariff in August. Production is concentrated in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
