More Than Half of Americans Have Faced Physical Violence

More than one in two US adults — 52% of women and 52% of men — have faced physical violence at some point in their lives, including attacks with a gun or knife. Researchers at Tulane University and UC San Diego found this when they asked 2,720 adults in every state in their 2025 USVEX survey.
