Church Priests Helped Fund Slave Trade, New List Shows

The Register of British Slave Traders, now put online in a project led by Professor William Pettigrew, names 45 Church of England priests who put money into Britain's nearly 250-year trade in enslaved Africans across the Atlantic. Their money helped pay for hundreds of slave ships and the 1720 restart of the Royal African Company, the biggest single slave-trading group.
