National plan to split supermarket owner to lower food prices

National says it would divide supermarket owner Foodstuffs in two to lower grocery prices. The plan would need support from the Commerce Commission, the group that checks competition is fair, after a review. Foodstuffs, now two ownership groups behind New World, Pak'nSave and Four Square, would become separate Pak'nSave and New World/Four Square groups, alongside Woolworths, according to RNZ.
